When I first started obsessing over all things preppy on Pinterest, I noticed a trend that was really surprising to me, and that was the level of casual defined as being "preppy". Suddenly, there were so many images of girls in oversized t-shirts or long-sleeves (sometimes called spirit tees) and running shorts. I am all for wearing what makes you happy and comfortable. There is no need to label your style, you do you! This was just surprising to me, that a lifestyle that is about upholding social etiquette and all that, if you will, would allow wearing oversized t-shirts and running shorts as perfectly acceptable attire to wear in public, with sandals no less!

Being an Australian feeling influenced by an American style, there are bound to be differences with culture. Fashion in America is different than fashion in Australia. I am not speaking for all of Australians here (although the title may suggest otherwise). In my personal opinion, and based off of observations from being an Australian, what is socially acceptable casual attire probably doesn't extend further than athlesiure wear. Observing women on a Saturday morning going for a supermarket run, or a brunch date, leggings, puffer vests and running shoes are everywhere. Sure, people wear hoodies and trackies in public, but I am focusing on the style in Melbourne that would be somewhere on the same level as American prep. Think Melbourne's inner eastern suburbs, or Brighton.
My outfit for a day at Uni featuring monogrammed jumper and leggings
At first, I thought that I wouldn't ever consider leaving the house in leggings, let alone tracksuit pants. However, it has kind of grown at me, and now I am sitting at Uni writing this blog post while wearing leggings and a slightly too big monogrammed jumper. I think the Americans are on to something, because this is so comfortable! Despite this, I still did't think I would ever extend this level of casual into wearing running shorts and a t-shirt in the Summer. However, like with most things declared "preppy", like Bean Boots, Lilly Pulitzer, and Jack Rogers sandals, this style is starting to grow on me. Especially this look from fellow blogger, Bailey Revis!

In conclusion, let's just say that if I ever had the opportunity to wear a long sleeve t-shirt from Vineyard Vines or Southern Tide with Krass and Co. shorts, and I could actually pull it off, I wouldn't object to it.
